It is often the audio video enthusiasts dream to have wireless home theater systems in their home. While a wired theater system offers a higher quality level of sound for the price that most wireless systems go for, they are also more difficult to set up and you will probably spend a decent amount of time and money concealing those wires in your theater.
The main benefit of a wireless theater is the reduction of wires in your room. The system wont get rid of all of the wires, but by cutting down on most of the wires to the speakers you wont have to work nearly as hard to conceal those speakers.
Without wires your speakers can be placed just about anywhere that you want in your room. You wont have to consider how you are going to run your wires, or make any sacrifices considering the placement at all.
With a set up that has few wires you can also put speakers in other locations around your home. While this isnt very important for a plain home theater system, with speakers spread out through your home you will be able to use your theater as a way to play music as well, which is a great way to get more value out of your setup.
Although wireless theater systems cost more money, they will save you time and could even save you money in the long run. Your speakers will be much more difficult to set up if you have to hide all of your wires. You will either have to hide your wires behind the trim in your theater, or you will have to put it in the walls of the room. Either way setting it up will take much longer, and cost you more if you are paying to have the work done.
One of the main drawbacks of a wireless setup is the lower quality results that you are going to get. Technology doesnt allow for audio quality that is on par with a wired setup. At the same price point. You are going to end up seriously downgrading your speaker quality, or increasing your speaker budget quite a bit to keep your sound quality at the same level.
One problem that many people have with wireless theaters is that they arent really wireless. Most of the time you will still have wires running between a few speakers and you will almost certainly have wires running around the rest of the equipment.
Even though wireless home theater systems are a possibility, many people will decide to stick with a wired solution for the superior audio quality at a lower price point. The wireless solution is more convenient but that may not be enough for everyone.
